There are 2 kinds of fireplaces, instructions for lighting both types are below.
Style 1: Control panel has big knob with Off, Pilot, and 1-5 settings
The gas fireplace's control panel has a red igniter button and a control knob. Here is how to light this style of gas fireplace:
- Turn the control knob to the “Pilot” position.
- Push in the control knob and push the igniter button once every 1-2 seconds until it lights. Depending on how long it’s been since the gas fireplace was last used, ignition may take multiple attempts.
- After the pilot lights, keep the control knob held down about 15 to 30 seconds to warm up the thermocouple and ensure that the flame stays lit.
- Release the control knob. If the flame stays lit, rotate the knob to the 1-5 marks to turn the fireplace on. Usually a setting of around 1.5 is a good starting point for comfortable room temperature.
- When you are done, if you switch the knob to Pilot instead of Off the pilot will stay lit so you don't have to re-ignite it from scratch.
Style 2: Has small knob with Off, Pilot, and On or Remote settings and either an external thermostat nearby on the wall or a remote control.
The gas fireplace's control panel has a igniter button (the ignitor can also be on the left of the log set) and a control knob.
If the flame stays lit, rotate the knob to the On or Remote setting.
- You should now be able to control the fireplace with the thermostat on the wall or remote control. Note the thermostat also has an Off or On/Heat setting too that needs to be turned on to work.
Tip: If it won't light a previous guest may have turned the gas off. When on the knob of the gas valve should be in line with or parallel to the gas line.
